PAKISTAN FLOOD EMERGENCY APPEAL
Pakistan Flood Emergency
✔️ July-September Monsoon Season
✔️ 8.6 million people in Pakistan are food insecure.
✔️ 6.4 million urgently need humanitarian aid
Pakistan is once again facing severe flooding, compounding the suffering from the 2022 and 2023 Monsoon flooding where over 33 million people were affected.
Since July 1, heavy rains and severe flooding have compounded the crisis claiming over 200 lives, damaging over 700 houses across the country and affecting over 34,000 people. Homes, essential infrastructure, and livelihoods have all been swallowed by the floodwaters. Families are displaced, children are missing, livestock perished, and entire communities are shattered.
The floods have also disrupted access to essential services, stranding families and preventing easy access to food, clean water, medical aid and proper sanitation. This is in turn increasing the risks of disease and starvation.
But it does not end there.
The full extent of the disaster remains concealed beneath rising waters, as many areas continue to grapple with the relentless onslaught of floods.
SKT Response
While different provinces have been hit hard, SKT Welfare will focus on aid distribution in hard-to-reach remote provinces like Sindh, including rural regions such as Dadu, Tehsil Johee, and the village of Kachoo.
Already, we’ve completed an initial delivery on the 18th of August, distributing hot meals and food parcels to hundreds of people. We are now preparing to deliver even more with YOUR support.
Rebuilding Pakistan
In the wake of the catastrophic 2022 monsoon floods, described by UN Secretary-General António Guterres as “a monsoon on steroids,” Pakistan faced unparalleled devastation. The floods submerged one-third of the country, destroying water systems and affecting 33 million people, half of whom were children.
In response to this crisis, SKT Welfare launched the Safe Haven Project. We constructed two-bedroom homes for families displaced by the disaster, distributed temporary tent shelters, hot meals, and emergency relief packages, installed hand pumps to provide clean drinking water, and repaired mosques to restore community spaces. Our efforts aimed to offer not just immediate relief but also a long-term path to recovery, ensuring vulnerable families found shelter, sustenance, and a sense of security amidst the turmoil.
