Zakat or almsgiving is one of the five pillars of Islam, along with prayer, fasting, pilgrimage (Hajj), and belief in Allah (SWT) and His Messenger, Prophet Muhammad (SAW). For every sane, adult Muslim who owns wealth over a certain amount – known as the nisab - they must pay 2.5% of that wealth as Zakat Donation.
Giving Zakat is a right that the poor have over the wealthy; it is the duty of the wealthy to fulfil this responsibility to those who are less fortunate. The Qur’an specifies exactly who may receive Zakat Donations.
“Alms are only for the poor and the needy, and those who collect them, and those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and to free captives and debtors, and for the cause of Allah, and for travellers” [Quran 9:60]
With SKT Welfare, your Zakat donations could do so much good in the world; they could help care for orphans and vulnerable people, provide food and water, deliver healthcare and education, or even provide emergency aid.

The term Zakat (the third pillar of Islam) is Arabic for obligatory charity... A charity (in Arabic, sadaqah) is when a Muslim pays a voluntary amount to other members of society out of compassion or solidarity.
It is mandatory for all eligible Muslims to give 2.5% of their accumulated wealth to the poor, destitute, and others - known as mustahik. This is the minimum amount of zakat you need to pay. The transfer of wealth to whole communities of the poor through this method is one of the largest in history.

Zakat's divinely stipulated boundaries do not encompass mosques, which are not owned by any one individual (and, in a similar manner, schools, public works, properties, and other deeds of benefit to the wider community). Mosques are therefore exempt from Zakat.
During Ramadan, your rewards are multiplied for doing good deeds. This is why most Muslims are willing to give Zakat in Ramadan to get more rewards.
Zakat recipients must be needy or poor in order to qualify for this donation. Those whose assets do not reach the threshold of nisab are considered poor. In order to receive your zakat, the recipient must not be a member of your immediate family; your spouse, children, parents, and grandparents will not be allowed to receive it.
All Muslims are required to give zakat, an alms obligation, once a lunar year (called a hawl) on the profit, or potential profit of their wealth.
You can give it to the Muslim community where you live and earn your income. If you do not have time or are unable to do that much effort, you can donate it to a charity that you trust.
Zakat may not be distributed to members of your immediate family such as your spouse, children, parents, or grandparents.
Every year, you should pay Zakat. A Muslim must calculate and pay Zakat for one lunar year after he or she becomes the owner of the minimum wealth required to donate zakat.
