An estimated 250,000 people have been left homeless. Reports reveal that the explosion was so strong that it was heard and felt as far away as Cyprus – more than 200km away.
Lebanon has been facing political and economic instability for a number of years, and the country was already on the verge of collapse. This was made worse by the Coronavirus outbreak and the resulting lockdown. Hospitals in Beirut are receiving an influx of wounded people, and have no choice but to turn some away or refer them to a hospital over 50km away.
This latest explosion could push Lebanon into further despair, causing a deep-rooted crisis like never before seen.
SKT Welfare are working with partner organisations in Lebanon to provide emergency aid to those affected by this devastating crisis. We will be monitoring the situation and work to support the people of Lebanon to recover and rebuild their lives.
Our initial response will focus on distributing food, water and medical aid to those that are wounded or have lost their homes and are sheltering in buildings such as schools, mosques and churches.
Each £25 food parcel will contain: Rice 900g, Sugar 900g, Lentils 900g, Tomato sauce 320g, Tuna 180g, Salt 900g, Sardines 180g, Hummus 900g, Beans 900g, Cooking cheese 100g, Bread 100g , Oil 1.8L, Tea 400g, Spaghetti 500g, Noodles 500g, Mortadela 400g, Cheese 400g and Water 10L.
We aim to support communities in a longer-term response by rebuilding homes and providing water.
