Hi, my name’s Mariya. This summer, I will embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey to provide direct support to those who need it most.I’m raising funds to deliver food packages to refugees in Lebanon who were displaced from their homes after a huge explosion at the Beirut port. This devastating event has left many in desperate need of assistance.

On August 4th, 2020, more than 300,000 people were displaced in Lebanon when a large stockpile of ammonium nitrate exploded at the Beirut port. The explosion caused widespread devastation, leading authorities to declare Beirut a "disaster city" and impose a two-week state of emergency. Buildings were damaged or destroyed, leaving many families without food or shelter. As a result, people sought refuge with relatives, friends, or in public spaces like schools and other buildings.

The devastating explosion in Lebanon has worsened a crisis that the country was already grappling with, including political instability, economic challenges, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to the explosion, nearly 50% of Lebanon's population was living below the poverty line, with the pandemic deepening the financial strain. Furthermore, Lebanon is home to over 1 million Syrian refugees who have fled the ongoing conflict in their homeland.

The organisation I’m working with, SKT Welfare, is dedicated to emergency relief and welfare efforts, offering vital assistance such as food, water, healthcare, education, and orphan care. With their 100% donation policy, you can rest assured that every penny of your donation will go directly to those in need.

By supporting this fundraiser, you’re not only supplying children and families with food; you’re also helping them envision a brighter future. This experience will help me gain a deeper understanding of the challenges refugees face every single day. It will be eye-opening, teaching me how blessed we are for things we often take for granted.
