SKT have endeavoured to provide safe clean drinking water to those thousands deprived of this necessity.
Raw water contains undesirable sediments, colour, algae (which can produce a taste and smell) and other harmful organisms. As a result of this thousands of men, women and children are at risk of becoming seriously poorly from waterborne pathogens. The Water Filtration Plant (WFP) is designed to remove this undesirable matter, and produce water fit and safe for drinking.
SKT have found that poor sanitation and sewage systems have contributed greatly to the contamination of water in certain cities and rural areas of Pakistan. Sewerage water (faecal) mixing with drinking water has resulted in an alarmingly low drinking water quality status and contamination of the water is very high.
SKT Welfare has identified a need to upgrade and introduce newer more sophisticated water filtration plants. Clearly direction and efforts have to be made towards alleviating these issues and allowing people to benefit from safe drinking water.
The following are findings provided by both WaterAid and our officers working on the ground in Pakistan.
- 21 million live without clean water close to home
- 250,000 children per year DO NOT live to see their fifth birthday because of dirty water
- 70% of diseases are transmitted via water
- 85% of the population in Pakistan doesn’t have access to clean, safe water
- Pakistan ranks third in the world among countries facing acute water shortage
- For every £1 invested in to water the local economy benefits by £4 increased productivity
It is as a result SKT welfare have In March 2018 we took a team of volunteers to Southern Punjab where many locals were deprived of access to safe and clean drinking water. Therefore, for the purpose to provide people with clean drinking water, SKT Welfare has installed 7 Reverse Osmosis Plants also called as Filtration plants that have benefited more than 57,000 people in the areas of Depalpur, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Kot Adu in 2017- 2018.
These plants have the capacity to filter gallons of water per day and solved basic problems of clean drinking water for the vulnerable population of the target areas. Due to access to safe and clean drinking water in these areas, the diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, dysentery, hepatitis A, and typhoid have significantly been reduced and the contributed to increase in health and hygiene of the communities. The SKT Welfare water projects in Pakistan have not only provided access to water to the people at their door steps but also improved the socio-economic condition of the people of Punjab through meeting the needs of water for their livestock and agricultural lands.
SKT Welfare Organization has been sucsessful in making a lot of things possible Since its inception. Many families have had a roof over their heads after the hardest of times...
